Jim Barnes is Chief Executive Officer for the Global Occupational Safety and Health Academy, LLC (Global OSHA), an international occupational safety and health training organization which provides training programs and courses on a global basis. He is responsible for strategic planning and directly oversees marketing, branding, and partnerships for Global OSHA. Jim has been employed by headquarters divisions for the U.S Department of Labor (DOL) and the U.S. Postal Service. He served as a Senior Advisor in the Office of Assistant Secretary for the Department of Labor - OSHA, where he directed agency-wide talent management initiatives, including succession planning and executive development programs. He previously served as Director of the Office of Training Programs and Administration for OSHA, where he was responsible for the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers Program, a national network of OSHA training sites; the OSHA Outreach Training Program, which trains workers in the basics of occupational safety and health; and the Susan Harwood Training Grants Program. These programs combined to train more than 950,000 workers during 2015.

Jim was responsible for accreditation and evaluation for all OSHA training programs, and also served as Administrative Officer. He directed the development and implementation of new training courses and programs, and has been recognized with numerous DOL Secretary's Exceptional Achievement awards. In 2017, Jim received the Assistant Secretary's Commendation Coin, which is the Agency's highest employee honor. Jim has been an adjunct faculty member at W.R. Harper College since 2006. He teaches business, human resources, and management classes. Jim earned a BSBA in Marketing and an MBA in Management (cum laude) from Roosevelt University. He is an Excellence in Government Senior Fellow and has attended the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Jim was elected to the Board of Directors for the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) in October, 2015 and currently serves as an officer.
